Linking and ranking
Some days ago i made a discovery of one very interesting thing related to the backlinks and rankings. We all know, that spiders love links and the whole web and its semantics is constructed by hyperlinks. But what you might not know is, that you don't probably need any keywords mentioned on your site, if you have a good amount of backlinks, which contains the necessary keywords on anchor names.

I shall show you a couple of examples:
1. case - "download now"
2. case - "click here"
3. case - "read more"
If you click these links, you'll see Google listings. We have made an exact "phrase search." Then you must click the first result, and look up the source code. Let's say you picked "download now". Then you need to search "download now" from result source code. Don't be burdened, because you don't find the exact phrase from there!
And that's exactly the point. There you have three examples of phrases, that gives first position to some sites, which don't mention even single time given phrase on their page. I don't know any other explanation there, but there must be millions of links on other sites, that points to the Acrobat Reader installation page, and their anchor name is: "click here" ... to get reader or "download now" for the the Quicktime Player or "read more" to get news from Google.
This means anchor text must contain the keywords, if we want our site to be ranked well on search results. If i want this article to be ranked up with "keyword research", i'd use the code < a href="http://randapp.com/files/linking_with_keywords.php" title="Practical linking with keywords">keyword research< /a> and deploy that on as many web sites as possible.To check backlinks and competition, you can use many tools mentioned on last blog (keyword research tools), but let's mention one more: http://directory.sootle.com/google-competition.html
