Twitter bomb suspended accounts

Even Twitter has served good experiences in overall, this morning I got sad news from one of my Twitter friend. My main @mmstud account was suspended on night or early sunday morning actually. Now while I have no automatic follower and purge scripts running for it since many weeks it can be cause of three reasons: 1) Twitter have made stricter rules about getting content from external data sources (which I use to get one quote and one link per day), 2) They dont really want to mess up with their business with multiple Twitter accounts or 3) it was a mistake (would not be first time btw.)

For people who dont know, even if your account is suspended you can log in to it and see some of the content. Your screen would look like this:

Mmstud suspended

I made a request to their support to explain what happened. Last August they had a few accounts suspended but they all woke up in a day or two without asking. I hope thats the case now as well. But if its not and they decide to keep my account(s) closed, I still have @markomanninen Twitter account open, which I’m using from now on.

This might frighten some users with multiple accounts, but to be honest here, Twitter does not tolerate mass account creation by their terms. Couple of accounts shouldnt be a problem, but they dont define mass account creation more detailed. Is it 10, 100, 1000? I’ve seen hundreds of accounts being used by some instances.

Twitter should have more detailed procedure and warning or some kind of alert system for end users, so that they can adjust and react to the account usage. Sure Twitter is their platform and they can do with it what they want. But I see one dangerous effect on current suspend politics. It will blow up the usage of automatic spam softwares which create dozens of accounts in minutes. Those accounts are used just for hard core spamming (mostly hardcore material also) which could make more harm to Twitter than if they tolerate multiple accounts, which are not used for hourly flooding messages on global timeline or aggressively sending private messages. In general it means increased level of junk accounts that are meant to live only some days anyway.

I know some of those programs while never used them and I also know they are used actively, because every time I create a new account, it will have 1-5 porn spam accounts following.

Now its time to wind up little by playing guitar, concert is coming soon and I should make my 4th long recording session next wednesday.

Twitter reinstated my @mmstud and @randapp accounts last weekend with a significant help of my dear Twitter friend. They didnt explain anything or answered my support requests. Lets see how things evolve…
